About SNAP Benefits

What is SNAP?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, helps low-income individuals and families buy food. SNAP benefits are provided on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Meet income limits (gross and net)
  • Meet asset limits ($2,750 for most households)

How Benefits Are Calculated

  • Earned income deduction (20%)
  • Housing and utility costs
  • Medical expenses (elderly/disabled)
  • Childcare expenses
